INTRODUCTION

It is often said that 'health is wealth'. It is not just a maxim: it goes without saying that everybody should take care of their health. With that said, as students, we should take care of our bodies most especially since it might become a hindrance to the progress of our learning if, in case, we become ill. Considering that many UPLB students are not within the vicinity of Los Banos, the students therefore have no one else to look after them but themselves. Fortunately, the University Health Service (UHS) can help us with our health concerns should the time come.

The University Health Service is a medical facility that prioritizes the health of UP constituents as mentioned in their mission. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for services like medical and dental check-ups, laboratory tests, x-rays, and others. They also provide annual immunization activities against influenze, pneumonia, and typhoid. It functions just like any other hospital, but since it was established more for the benefit of UP constituents, services rendered to UP constituents vary from non-UP constituents. For example, students and faculty members have free medical check up privileges.

However it is inevitable that the hospital produces wastes that may have negative effects to the environment and the organisms living within the vicinity. These wastes, if not treated properly and disposed of responsibly, may indeed harm the environment. That's why young people like us, especially  students of UPLB should be aware about these.
